​The Nature and Climate Network (NCN) is the new name for West Berkshire Green Exchange, as of January 2026. 
​
Our aim is to help local groups and individuals work together for a sustainable West Berkshire.

Upcoming Events
Saturday 10 Jan, Volunteer Fair at the Corn Exchange, 10am - 2.30pm. Come and talk to us about ways to get involved, or to find out more about local nature and climate groups.

Wednesday 14 Jan, Imagining Hope - The Future of our Communities, 7pm, St John’s Church, Newbury. We'll be one of several groups talking about the part we can all play. Tickets are free, please book here.

Friday 30 Jan, An evening showing of the uplifting film, 2040, by Newbury Town Council, at Newbury Town Hall. Followed by a discussion on what many local people are already doing for nature and climate. 

Saturday 31 January, evening Winter Social, held jointly with Newbury Friends of the Earth at Ace Space in Newbury. Please email [email protected] for more details.

We’re thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a £20,000 National Lottery grant for a program of work throughout 2026, to support nature and climate*.

🏡 Sharing experiences of: 
  1. Healthy eating, eg ⅓ less meat, & ⅕ less dairy.
  2. Changing end-of-life boilers to more efficient heating systems.
  3. Reducing petrol & diesel car use. 
  4. Adapting to change, including protecting local nature.
  5. Finding out more information, eg taking a free, 8 hour, 'Positive Actions' Carbon Literacy® course, or becoming a member by joining our monthly mailing list here.

​* Based on guidance from the Climate Change Committee on diet, homes, & travel, & the Centre for Climate Change & Social Transformations on social norms, practicalities & information.

The flagship event will be GreenFest West Berkshire 2026, on Saturday 24th October at St Bart’s School in Newbury. Please put the date in your calendars - you won’t want to miss it!

The Nature and Climate Network welcomes any West Berkshire group or individual who wants to connect with others working towards stabilising nature and climate. Our local network includes people with expertise in: 
  • Nature conservation
  • Affordable and energy-efficient home improvements - see our Contacts List (updated Oct 2025) to get you started.
  • Single-use plastic reduction, & local recycling options
  • Mediterranean (naturally low-carbon and healthy) cooking
  • Reducing food waste
  • Estimating and reducing carbon footprints
  • Electric vehicle facts and myths
  • Switching to banks and pensions that don’t invest in fossil fuels
  • Campaigning (eg the UK’s Climate and Nature Bill and the​ global Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation Treaty)

We help each other stay up to date with the latest nature and climate news through our WhatsApp group, presentations to local groups, and our Nature and Climate Stall at local events.

We share information from West Berkshire Council, including from the Town and Parish Climate Forum. Please subscribe to their Environment Newsletter, visit their online Green Hub and read their Environment Strategy 2020-2030  to find out more about available help and grants, the latest news from local eco-groups, and progress towards targets.
